Tie Rod / Pendant
Pendant bars linking the tower head to the jib and counter-jib, taking their tension.
← Back to crane parts
The tie rod, or pendant, is the tension member that links the tower head to the jib and counter-jib. It holds the working arm in position and takes its load back to the mast.

Construction
Steel pendant bars or rods with forged or machined end fittings and pins, made up in matched lengths so the jib and counter-jib are set at their correct working angles.

Role on the crane
Pendants carry the tension that keeps the jib and counter-jib in their working position. Their length and adjustment set the geometry of the machine and directly affect the load chart.
Inspection and maintenance
- Inspect pins, end fittings and threads for wear and cracks before erection.
- Check for straightness and corrosion; a bent or corroded pendant must be replaced, not straightened.
- Use matched pendants only, and confirm the correct pair for the jib length in use.
