Jib (Working Arm)
Lattice jib carrying the trolley and hook; assembled from sections to suit various working radii.
← Back to crane parts
The jib is the working arm of the crane. It carries the trolley and hook out to the required radius and is assembled from sections to suit the working radius of the site.

Construction
A triangular or square lattice built from steel chords and seamless-tube bracing, with a top chord that carries the trolley and a lower chord that carries the trolley rail. Sections are bolted together and held by tie rods or pendants from the tower head.

Role on the crane
The jib sets the crane's reach. Its length determines the maximum working radius and, together with the counter-jib and counterweights, the load the machine can lift at each radius.
Inspection and maintenance
- Check chord straightness and bolted joints after assembly and after any overload event.
- Inspect the trolley rail and tie-rod connections for wear and correct tension.
- Keep the jib to the manufacturer's assembly sequence; adding or removing sections changes the rated capacity.
